The Marin History Museum has partnered with The City of San Rafael to bring local history to pedestrians in downtown.


The project begins with 25 selected sites of historic interest down Fourth Street, from the Union Depot where the SMART train now stops, to the corner of Fourth and D Streets where one of the early San Rafael newspapers was published.

Join us for this free community event featuring preservation specialists Doug DeFors and Carol Acquaviva, who will share practical techniques for caring for family photographs, documents, textiles, and treasured keepsakes. 

You can also register to bring in up to three keepsake items, including fine art, antiques, jewelry, furniture, Asian art, coins, stamps, sports memorabilia, and other collectibles, for fair market appraisal.

Join local historian Brian K. Crawford on a history walk to spectacular Tennessee Cove. On the way, he will talk about the history of the valley and the ranchers who made it their homes. At the beach, he will relate the accounts of six ships that struck this unforgiving coast over an eighty-year span, including the steamship Tennessee that gave the cove its name.
