The Martin History Museum has partnered with The City of San Rafael to bring local history to pedestrians in downtown.

The project begins with 17 selected sites of historic interest down Fourth Street, from the Union Depot where the SMART train now stops, to the corner of Fourth and D Streets where one of the early San Rafael newspapers was published.

In the spring of 2026, look for signs posted with QR codes that will take you to photographs and stories (in English or Spanish) about the sites you visit. 

We plan to expand the tour to other streets in San Rafael. If you have a suggestion for a sign, let us know at info@marinhistory.org.
